Can Green Card holders travel to Mexico without a visa?

There is good news for the holders of the U.S. Green Card. Those who have obtained a lawful permanent resident status in the U.S. are not required to carry a visa if they wish to visit Mexico.

Even though a visa is not necessary to enter Mexican territory, Green Card holders might need valid identity proof to cross the United States-Mexico border. In this case, a valid foreign passport will be a perfect choice. Moreover, Green Card holders need to prove their lawful residency by carrying their U.S. Permanent Resident Cards at all times.

Thankfully, permanent U.S. residents are treated like American citizens in some aspects, so they are free from obtaining a visa to travel to Mexico. However, Mexican entry requirements state that all visitors must carry a valid travel document—a Mexican Tourist Card (Forma Migratoria Múltiple). It is a document that allows foreign tourists to enter Mexico and travel within its borders for recreational purposes.

Once you reach the border of Canada, you will only need to show your eTA to the border agents. You will however, be asked to also present your passport and Green Card as well.

You might know Georgia for its splendid wines, but that’s not all you can look forward to when visiting this country. In Georgia, you can visit many beautiful sites, old town streets, parks, and some breathtaking mountains.

A visa will not be required for your visit for Green Card holders. As a Green Card holder you will be able to stay in Georgia for up to 90 (ninety) days visa free.

The Balkans

The Balkans are an absolutely stupendous area of Southern Europe, including countries like Albania, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. These three countries allow Green Card holders to visit them visa free for a maximum of:

The upside of visiting Balkan countries is that they’re a lot more affordable than their more mainstream European counterparts such as, for example, France, Spain, or the UK. They have tons of wonderful attractions and absolutely phenomenal views to offer, and they’re also more low-key in terms of tourist traffic.

Virgin Islands of Britain

If you are looking for a beautiful place with gorgeous beaches and a place to spend an amazing summer, then these British Islands are definitely a destination you should take a look at.

Besides your Green Card you will need your passport, return flight ticket, and also proof of accommodation on  the islands.

Green Card holders’ travel to Europe is limited to only a few non-EU countries, as some European states provide a visa waiver to Green Card holders where you will not be required to have a valid visa to travel.

It all depends on which country’s passport you hold. For instance, if the citizens of your country of origin are normally required to apply for a Schengen visa (or any other European country’s tourist visa) prior to a Euro trip, then as a U.S. Green Card holder you will still be required to apply for such a visa.

If you do obtain a Schengen visa, you will be allowed to stay in the Schengen Area (which includes 26 countries) for a period of up to 90 days.

Can I travel to the UK with only a Green Card?

Unfortunately, you cannot. Even if you do have a U.S. Green Card, you will still be required to obtain a UK visa to travel to the UK.

The UK visa program requires residents of many nations (which are mostly EU and Commonwealth nations) to be granted visa-free access for up to six months. You would have to request a regular UK visitor visa if you don’t come from any of the  countries listed in the visa exemptions.

Do I need a passport if I have a Green Card?

The short answer is yes. A valid passport will be required regardless whether you have a Green Card or not.

You won’t be allowed to fly abroad if you don’t hold a valid passport. When you cross a country’s border, whether by land or air, the border officials will most likely ask for your passport and probably a visa or residency permit.

In certain situations,  you won’t be asked to show your passport at the border. Only citizens of neighboring countries or regions with an arrangement of some kind in place (such as Schengen Area citizens) do not need to display a passport.

Ledjan is a graduate of Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Marketing at Epoka University, Albania. He is a biometric photography expert and travel enthusiast who loves spending his free time taking photos, painting, and travelling.

Canada is widely known for its strict entry requirements. Think Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), visa-required and visa-exempt country lists, or criminal records regulations. These rules may cause many questions to storm into the travelers’ minds.

As a proud Green Card holder, you might ask yourself, “Can I go to Canada with a Green Card?” Is it enough? Is a passport needed? What about some other documents?

Look no further. This article will address every little doubt you might have about visiting Canada as a Green Card holder.

Unfortunately, a Green Card may not be enough to enter Canada.

Permanent U.S. residents have to present 2 (two) types of documents: an identity proof and proof of status. While the Green Card is a representation of the latter, visitors are still obliged to prepare the document for the first requirement.

The situation is slightly different for children, though. In the case of travelers under the age of 16 (sixteen), a passport may not be required. A birth certificate, for example, may be sufficient.

A Green Card holder’s travel to Canada

Canada tempts many tourists worldwide, offering places such as Alberta lakes, national parks, or the famous Niagara Falls.

Are you a Green Card holder wanting to visit one of the most picturesque countries close to the U.S.? While the destination looks like a dream, there are a few requirements that travelers need to meet before entering Canada.

It is crucial to make sure that all your documents are not destroyed or torn, and that your passport has not expired before organizing your trip to Canada.

Can I go to Canada with a Green Card and no passport?

As we already know, Canada requires valid identification and travel documents to cross its borders. What if a traveler lacks one of these documents?

While the Green Card provides information about lawful U.S. residence, holders still need to bring documents proving their identity. Does Canada allow tourists to enter the country without a passport? The answer is “yes, but.” There are instances where Green Card holders can go to Canada without a passport. However, they must meet other requirements.

Canadian law demands that travelers always provide a valid identity document regardless of their residence status.

While it is much easier for U.S. citizens–they can present any document issued in the United States–for Green Card holders, the situation is slightly different. If you cannot obtain the passport as a lawful permanent resident, you may request a re-entry permit, for example, which will also benefit your residence status.

Canadian entry requirements

For U.S. Green Card holders, the requirements necessary to cross the Canadian border are relatively the same for all travel methods. Nevertheless, let’s take a quick look at them.

Traveling by air

Using air travel always requires carrying a passport with you. However, as we mentioned, you can replace the passport with another acceptable, equivalent document which proves your identity.

Here, the passport card or the re-entry permit issued by USCIS will be enough. The rules are different for children–regardless of their age, they always have to have a valid passport when traveling by plane.

Traveling by land/sea

These types of trips are much easier as they do not require carrying a passport either from adults or children. Permanent U.S. residents, however, will still need to present proof of their status. When it comes to identification, the documents mentioned above will suffice; for children, it can be a birth certificate.

Even though Canada accepts other travel documents to prove your identity, a passport remains the universally-acknowledged travel document. It is recognized by every custom service and airline worldwide. Because of this, carrying a valid passport makes traveling much easier.

Yes, you can, under some conditions. The Green Card (or any proof of valid status) and the passport (or any official proof) are required to enter Canada. If you do not own a current passport, you may prepare a different document to present your identity to the customs agents. For Green Card holders, a re-entry permit would be a good option.

Can I go to Canada from the U. with a valid Green Card?

CAN I GO TO MEXICO WITH A GREEN CARD?

Фото с сайта immigrationinamerica.files.wordpress.com

Green card

Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery.

Green card

Green card

Because of its fantastic culture, cuisine, beaches, and its proximity to the United States, Mexico is one of the most popular foreign destinations among US citizens. But before you travel to Mexico, make sure you are well prepared with all the travel documents needed for Mexico trips. In this blog post, we focus on the travel documents a lawful permanent resident or a green card holder needs to travel to Mexico.

Short answer is yes, all US Green Card holders need a passport. Keep on reading to find out why and what would happen if you don’t have it.

Do US Green card holders need a passport to go to Mexico?

Green Card holders hold the right to live and work in the United States permanently without restriction. They have the same rights as any US citizen, even when traveling outside the United States. Therefore any green card holder who plans to go to Mexico needs a valid passport from their country of origin. With your foreign passport plus the green card, you will be allowed to enter Mexico by air, sea or land.

If you do not currently possess a valid passport from your country of origin, you need to contact your country’s nearest embassy in the US to apply for a passport. Be sure to fill your passport application well in advance of your travel dates, although in some cases you can expedite your passport application for an extra fee. Note that you cannot apply for a US passport unless you are a US citizen.

Once you are in Mexico, go to the nearest US embassy or US consulate for registration. This will allow the State Department to assist or contact you in case of an emergency. When returning to the United States from Mexico, through any form of transportation, you will only be granted access once you show the custom officials your valid foreign passport and your valid, unexpired Permanent Resident Card.

What other travel documents do Green card holders need to go to Mexico?

According to Mexico’s visa policy, foreign nationals holding a valid US permanent residence regardless of their nationality, do not require to obtain a Mexican visa if visiting for tourism purposes. Green card holders who will be working in Mexico are required to obtain a work visa from Mexico’s National Immigration Institute (INM). This means only green card holders who are visiting Mexico as tourists can go without a visa. However, you still need to buy a Mexico tourist card.

A Mexico tourist card is a permit required by all foreign citizen travelers who will be visiting Mexico and will not be engaging in any type of salaried work. The tourist card is also referred to as “Forma Migratoria Múltiple”, (FMM) and formerly known as an FMT. It is valid for up to 180 days and will allow you to stay in Mexico for the given time. If you wish to extend your stay more than the 180 days, you need to exit and then re-enter Mexico with a new tourist card. Due to most commercial airlines no longer handing out immigrations forms, it’s best to apply for your tourist card online. This will help avoid any delays when arriving at immigration.

If traveling by air, land or sea, the cost of the tourist card is included in the ticket fare. You can fill out the card online or at the point of entry in Mexico. All you need is a valid passport, flight information, address or name of the hotel where you are staying. The tourist card should be filled per person, including children.
